Okay, now that the dust has settled, let’s talk about how we did on the prognostications for Macworld…not 100%, but really not all that bad for our first shot (we’d dare say, as good if not better than most of the other “credible” sites out there).
Without further ado, here we go, point by point:
Welcome and introduction, brief review of iPod/iTunes and Mac sales during the holidays, market share up (>5%), and iTunes continuing to dominate. Maybe take a pot shot or two at the Zune.
Man, we nailed that one, boom, what a way to start it!! Zune’s 2% share, how could you not make fun of that?!? Like shooting fish in a barrel…too bad we go downhill from here 🙂
While we’re talking iPods, let’s just bump the iPod up to a 120GB drive at the high end.
WRONG…but believe us, it is on the way, and soon!
Full screen iPods? We think so, and what better to go with full screen iPods than additional movie studios selling movies on iTunes??
Right on the studios, kinda right on the full screen iPod (since that is one of the functions of the new iPhone)…we’ll take it! More after the jump…
And you know, while we’re adding more movies to iTunes, let’s go ahead and put the Mac Mini Pancake (iTV, although our name for it is better) on sale…and oh by the way, just because we’re crazy like that, how about some games to play on it (simple ones, similar to iPod and/or Xbox Live Arcade), and also, how about full support for YouTube and Google Video in the videos section (and we’ll add that to Front Row, too).
It did go on sale, we bet you can play some games on it, and you can bet you can get video on the thing from other sources…we say good!
Now, let’s talk about the Mac, let’s talk Leopard and all the fancy new things you can do with 10.5, so fast, 64-bit native, new UI and new Finder (we can all dream). Improved Boot Camp and Front Row (games via Front Row, as well as a plug-in architecture/API for developers to extend it). While we’re talking software, of course, new iLife 07 and iWork (now with Spreadsheet). Time for demos.
What better way to run Leopard than on an 8-core Mac Pro? Fastest Mac yet, blablabla. And we’re not forgetting about the MacBook Pro so let’s bump up the specs on them, and introduce the “one more thing”…MacBook Duo, very light and small, no compromises, great (6hr) battery life, 12″ widescreen display with a full size keyboard, optical drive, and all at 4lbs.
We started so good…too bad we were wrong on ALL of this…the thing is, it isn’t a matter of right or wrong, but when. Unlike other sites, we will own up to it, we were WRONG!
That’s it! Everyone immediately freaks out about no announcement of the phone that made love to an iPod, but no worries, that will be coming soon by end of Q1.
Wrong there, but the features, pretty darned accurate (based on our expanded iPhone post)…save for the SIM card dream of Europe, and the GPS stuff, the rest we were pretty darned right about…even a touchscreen/tablet style, booyah!! Who saw it all coming in one device, not us!
So, there we have it, did you notice how we totally kicked butt on the whole “this iPhone picture is FAKE” story!?! Everything, dead on, including no FCC leaks, no ad agency leaks, and that it was a complete and total FRAUD. We are feeling pretty good about this, and now it’s time to turn our attention to when we will see the 8-way Mac Pro, when we will see 10.5, and iWork 07 and iLife 07 and so forth…we will have more on that shortly!!
In the meantime, give a shout and let us know your reaction to Macworld, and expect more in depth analysis shortly! As always, applerecon-at-gmail-dot-com or comment below!!
PS – If you’re a die hard Apple fanatic, you know that Sosumi is really “so sue me” which is our attitude about being wrong on some stuff, sorry! Ironically, did you notice the Beatles music used during the keynote today? A sign of things to come (Apple finally getting the Beatles on iTunes?)…For the fun back story on it, check out the Wikipedia article on Sosumi.
